Annual Report to Governor due Dec. 31 (Executive Order 01.01.2009.09).

The Joint Enforcement Task Force on Workplace Fraud was initiated by the Governor in July 2009 (Executive Order 01.01.2009.09). The Task Force coordinates the investigation of workplace fraud in Maryland and the enforcement of workplace fraud statutes.

To accomplish its objectives, the Task Force recommends measures to improve prevention of workplace fraud; develops strategies for systematic investigation in industries where misclassification and workplace fraud are most prevalent; identifies potential violators and facilitates the filing of complaints against them by reaching out and educating the public. In investigating significant cases of workplace fraud, it uses the collaborative capabilities of Task Force members; establishes protocols for referring investigations for assessment of potential liability; and involves local state's attorneys and agencies. The Task Force also coordinates efforts with federal agencies; raises public awareness that employee misclassification is illegal and causes harm; works cooperatively to provide assistance to victims of workplace fraud; and generally works with business, organized labor, and government agencies to increase the effectiveness of the Task Force.
