The Joint Oversight Committee on the Department of Juvenile Services organized in 2006 (Chapter 11, Acts of 2006). The Committee is to review the operations of the Department of Juvenile Services, and the reports of the Department to the General Assembly. Progress made by the Department in developing and implementing the Facilities Master Plan, required by Chapter 431, Acts of 2004, also will be monitored by the Committee.

The Committee consists of twelve members: six from the Senate and six from the House of Delegates chosen respectively by the Senate President and House Speaker, who also appoint the chairs.
